The special series to put a spotlight on our international staff, “Eyes, JAPAN Employee Interview” is back! Our second interviewee this year is Numan Md Obaydullah Al from Bangladesh.

He has been working in Eyes, JAPAN for almost 8 months, and we would like to ask him about his experience living in Japan and working in Eyes, JAPAN!

Embracing Change: From Home to Japan

Numan’s home country, Bangladesh, is a place of natural beauty, where the adaptability of nature, greeneries, and diverse landscapes create a stunning environment. He also loves the variety of food and fruits, as well as the warmth and hospitality of the people there.

Numan’s journey to Japan was driven by a desire to enrich his educational portfolio. He admires Japan’s reputation for strong manners and cleanliness, and he saw it as an opportunity for personal development. Choosing Japan was about more than just education, it was about evolving into a better version of himself.

Life in Aizu turned out to be slower than Numan initially expected, both compared to his hometown and other parts of Japan. However, for someone who loves nature and values self-development, Numan believe that Aizu offers a peaceful and enriching environment, it has deep history and vibrant food culture. On weekends, he enjoys exploring different places, taking in the unique charm of the region.

When it comes to hobbies, Numan enjoys planting and cooking, as well as discovering historic sites and antiques. At this stage in his life, Numan found that free time is hard to find, but when he gets a moment, he spends it connecting with family and friends, listening to recitations, and watching videos. Also, among his skills, Numan is most proud of is his ability to forgive others, no matter what they do to him.

Academically, Numan is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the University of Aizu. His previous research focused on computer vision with sensor data analysis, and now he is developing path-planning algorithms for autonomous mobile robots.

Journey at Eyes, JAPAN

Did you have any job experiences before joining Eyes, JAPAN?

Numan: Before joining Eyes, JAPAN, I had a three-month internship at an AI-focused company.

How did you know about Eyes, JAPAN and why did you decide to join Eyes, JAPAN?

Numan: I learned about Eyes, JAPAN from one of my lab mates who was working there. And I decided to join Eyes, JAPAN because it offers flexibility to balance work with academic commitments. It provides opportunities to enhance my skills, has a great work culture, and fosters strong employee interactions.

What kind of role and projects have you been working on in Eyes, JAPAN?

Numan: I work here part-time, initially handling various short tasks before taking on larger assignments. I conducted a project assessment on medical conversation transcription and am now working on the backend for transcription and summarization.

What do you think about your colleagues and working environment in Eyes, JAPAN?

Numan: My colleagues at Eyes, JAPAN are friendly, cooperative, and create a supportive work environment. While the working environment at Eyes, JAPAN is flexible, supportive, and encourages skill development and collaboration.

What do you think about working at the company and working at home?

Numan: Due to natural hazards or academic pressure, we sometimes work from home, but working at the company is more beneficial. It allows for easier communication with colleagues and provides a more focused work environment than home.

What kind of problems or challenges have you faced while working in Eyes, JAPAN, and how did you solve it?

Numan: At Eyes, JAPAN, I sometimes faced communication and cultural gaps since we work with people from diverse backgrounds. To overcome this, I made an effort to be more open to feedback and suggestions and asked questions whenever I had doubts. This approach has really helped me adapt and improve.

What kind of project do you want to work on in the future?

Numan: I’d love to work on AI-driven automation, robotics, and computer vision, focusing on autonomous navigation, medical AI, and smart environmental solutions.

Personal Growth and Future Aspirations

For Numan, moving to Japan requires quite significant cultural adjustments. Coming from a completely different cultural and religious background, he is still learning how to navigate these differences while staying true to his identity. Aside from that, balancing work, studies, and personal life is another challenge for him, but he tries to prioritize his tasks, using his time efficiently, and setting clear boundaries.

Numan’s motivation comes from his desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. And he emphasizes the importance of being open to learning and adapting to the work culture while staying true to one’s self.

Last but not least, Numan’s dream is to contribute to making the earth greener, leaving a lasting positive impact on the world.
