The special series to put a spotlight on our international staff, “Eyes, JAPAN Employee Interview” has reach the 20th volume! Our interviewee this month is Ramon Vilardell Belles from Spain.

He has been working in Eyes, JAPAN for about 11 months. We wanted to ask Ramon about his life in Japan, why he came to Japan and what does he think about working in Eyes, JAPAN.

Likes the Interesting Japanese Culture

Where do you come from, and what is your favorite thing about your home country/town?

Ramon: I came from Catalonia, Spain, and the thing I like most is being able to be with my family and friends, being able to celebrate festivities together. Apart from that, I like food, for example bread with tomato or ham, Catalan cream… It also allows me to enjoy the time as it is a slightly calmer place.

Why did you come to Japan and what do you like about Japan?

Ramon: I decided come to Japan in 2020 for an opportunity of my country University to Japanese University. Japan is a place that I always wanted to visit and this opportunity makes the application and the stay easy.

Ramon: The thing that I like the most of Japan is the culture since is very different but very interesting. Understand this new culture makes me grow up as a person also I like anime and manga the Japanese food like sushi or katsudon.

What do you think about life in Aizu?

Ramon: The life is very nice the people are very warm and very familiar, a place where you can enjoy nature but at the same time be able to enjoy activities. Also I like Japanese culture and in Aizu there is a very important place for its history. In Aizu you can also enjoy the 4 seasons, being able to ski, being able to go to the lake or being able to wade from the cirarares forits makes it a place that cannot be compared.

What is your hobby and how do you usually spend your free time?

Ramon: My hobby is playing sports, especially basketball, I also like to sing, watch anime and do research on my field of study. Normally, if I have time, I like to go to the gym or run around the city, but normally, since I’m tired from the whole week, I prefer to stay in bed and rest.

Do you have any things or skills that you are proud of?

Ramon: It’s easier for me to adapt to new environments and circumstances, I like being able to overcome challenges on my own, this allows me to improve my programming skills or other subjects.

What do you think is the current most popular technology-related topic?

Ramon: In matters of technology, artificial intelligence is the one that is on everyone’s lips since it is within the reach of the whole world and there are many applications that make medical issues or astronomy issues rapid improvements. Great improvements are also being made in matters of security (Cybersecurity). Nano satellites that improve communications, Earth observation, remote sensing, and scientific research.

Parties: Makes The Company a Family

How did you know about Eyes, JAPAN and why did you decide to join Eyes, JAPAN?

Ramon: My teacher recommended Eyes Japan from the beginning because it was a company with a very good environment and I could improve my programming skills and IT-related subjects, she also recommended me because the head of the company was a very kind gentleman. Basically, I trust 100% with my professor and when I entered the company for the first time I noticed a warm reception, they also had many different projects and I could improve my knowledge quickly and effectively.

What is your role and what kind of projects have you been working on in Eyes, JAPAN?

Ramon: I’m a programmer in themes I’ve worked in frontend themes (Angular, React). Right now, I’m working on AI in face detection for medical industry although my conexamants are very basic I’m improving and showing results.

Could you please let us know your most memorable project in Eyes, JAPAN?

Ramon: The project I’m working on now is helping me quickly improve Python and AI topics. I would say that Segutmant will be the most remembered in the future as I can work side by side with very high-level people.

What customs in Eyes, JAPAN that you like the most?

Ramon: For me, the best customs are the parties we have, which make the company more like a family, and allow us to get to know each other better. I also have good memories of the apple-picking festival.

What do you think about your colleagues and the working environment in Eyes, JAPAN?

Ramon: My colleagues are incredible, there is a lot of level in technical matters and they are also very good people after work you can create bonds beyond work. And the environment is perfect, it has all the things a worker would want. The coffee is incredible, there is also any facility you need. We also have weekday meetings that ensure communication is always present.

What kind of problems or challenges have you faced while working in Eyes, JAPAN, and how did you solve it?

Ramon: The biggest problem I had was in terms of communication and this brought a big problem to the company, However I have been able to learn from the mistakes and have improved in this area. I’m new to AI topics, I’m just learning about these topics as my tasks are related to this topic.

Dream: Get a Space Related Job

What kind of projects do you want to work on in the future?

Ramon: I want to work on projects related to AI or graphics since these two topics are very interesting.

Have you experienced any culture shock while working in Japan?

Ramon: In the first company I worked for in Japan, the work life balance was very poor, and I had to think more about how to act with the people there than about the work. I think that you had to dress in a certain way to not show the skin and it shocked me at first. Then I came to Eyes Japan and things changed completely, I can enjoy the studies at the same time as I can enjoy working.

How do you balance your working and private time?

Ramon: First of all, studies are the main reason I’m here and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to collaborate with people who have a very high level of space. Next is work, since it is the place where I can learn, get to know each other and improve and I have a commitment. Finally, I like to rest or see places if I have time.

What motivates you to keep working and studying?

Ramon: Learning new knowledge is very satisfying, and it allows me to want to continue learning and working.

Any advice for people who wants to work in Japan?

Ramon: Learn Japanese, and try not to get stuck, learn the culture of the country and work culture of Japan, try to improve in your field as the competition is very high. Finally, good luck finding a company as one of the most important things is balancing work and family life.

Lastly, what is your dream?

Ramon: Get older healthier, have a family , finally get a good job related to space.
