Eyes, JAPAN Employee Interview [Vol. 12]

The special series to put a spotlight on our international staff, “Eyes, JAPAN employee interview” has reached the last volume for 2022! Our interviewee this time is Musa from Bangladesh.
He started working in Eyes, JAPAN towards the end of 2022. We wanted to ask Musa about his life in Japan, why he came to Japan and what does he think about working in Eyes, JAPAN.

Likes Research to Make Better World.
What is your favorite thing about your home country/home town?
Musa: My favorite thing in my country is the Sundarbans mangrove forest which is the largest mangrove forest in the world and it is protected by UNESCO.
Why did you come to Japan and what do you like about Japan?
Musa: I heard the name Japan when I was a high school student. In rural areas of Bangladesh, Japan is famous for some products like Toyota cars, Panasonic electronics etc. During my undergraduate study, I met many Japanese professors who visited my university and I understood Japan is a good country for Higher Study. Then I decided to come to Japan for my higher study to enjoy the research environment in Japan and want to experience living in Japan. What I like about Japan is, firstly, the research environment. Secondly, the living environment feels safe and Peaceful, and I also really like the food and culture.
What do you think about life in Aizu?
Musa: Aizu is a wonderful place for living. I love the nature and landscapes here around Aizu. I very much enjoy looking at the mountain scenery whenever I am going out somewhere.
What is your favorite way of spending the weekend or holidays in Aizu?
Musa: I love to go to the Inawashiro lake and enjoy the mountain scenery. It is a beautiful place and reminds me a lot of what I have seen in various movies especially read see and so on.
What is your hobby and how do you usually spend your free time?
Musa: My hobby is to play soccer, hanging out with friends, meeting various cultural and religious people, and I spend my free time reading famous history, cocking, watching historical movies and gossiping with family and friends.
What is your academic background and what kind of research are you doing or have you done before?
Musa: I am currently a 2nd year PhD student in University of Aizu. My research domain is computer vision and hand gesture recognition mostly for the medical area. I like my research work to serve humanity and make better world.

How did you know about Eyes, JAPAN?
Musa: The first time I heard was when I was still in my country. Our Japanese language teacher Kusakari sensei sent me a message about it. After coming to Japan, I heard about EJ from my Bangladeshi friend Md Rubayeth Kabir. He introduced me to this company.
Why did you decide to join Eyes, JAPAN?
Musa: I was interested in its multicultural environment and real-life project. I also like that Eyes, JAPAN is giving opportunities to everyone who’s willing to learn and demonstrate his abilities to build the system for the benefit of the common human being.
Do you have any job experiences before joining Eyes, JAPAN?
Musa: Actually, I did not have any work experience in Japan but I was an Assistant professor at the department of computer science and engineering department at a Bangladeshi University.
What is your role and what kind of projects have you been working on in Eyes Japan?
Musa: My role is AI engineer, AI related work like recognizing hand gestures, human activity, and so on. And I’ve been working on Gait analysis for medical application.
Which custom in Eyes, JAPAN do you like the most?
Musa: I like that the working culture of Eyes, JAPAN goes beyond the traditional Japanese style.
What do you think about working at the company and working at home?
Musa: Personally, I think, company environment is more suitable to solve the project background related problems, although both the office and home helps people to be able to freely continue their work anytime, at their free time. Since most of the work requires to keep learning and searching.
What kind of problems or challenges have you faced while working in Eyes, JAPAN, and how did you solve it?
Musa: I was initially unsure which project would suit me best. After that decided to work on a project but I feel challenged because of lacking instruction/orientation as I did not have experience at the company level. Then I had to approach some senior employees to ask a question regarding my lacking but the problem is the availability of their time.
Advice: Try to Develop Yourself.
How do you balance your working and private time?
Musa: Usually, I follow routines where I dedicated little time to work and the rest of the time to my studies. Besides the routine, I try to keep my eyes on priorities based on valid cases. But mainly, I try to follow the routine as much as possible except any problems.
What do you think about working in Japanese company?
Musa: Every company has its own rules and regulations, which are beneficial for everyone. I may not like all the rules but I have to take preparation to follow them so that I can gradually adjust to those rules for the betterment of my future career. Usually, we think that Language is one of the most barriers in Japanese companies but EJ is different from that barrier.
Any advice for people who wants to work in Japan?
Musa: Try to develop yourself by learning new technologies and make sure to follow the right people who will help you in your difficult journey.
What kind of projects do you want to work on in the future?
Musa: I would like to work on a project that is related to computer vision and medical area.
What is your dream?
Musa: My dream is to be a scientist
