Video projection mapping has been around for the last few decades, but it is only in recent years that the technique to create dynamic projection installations. Amazing projections have been made for advertising purposes, and they work in giving the audience a huge impact with the illusions possible.

Video Mapping BLOG has an extensive list of such video projection projects made all of over the world, and inspired by them, Eyes, JAPAN has jumped onto the bandwagon.

I have played around and tested projection mapping onto two walls in the basement of Eyes, JAPAN’s office. From my quick research, most use VJ tools like VPT, Modul8, etc, but I did not have the luxury of time to play around with new tools for the time being. I made do with what I had – Autodesk Maya 2012, and Mitsubishi’s XD600U-G projector. There was lots of trial and error, and some cheating, but the simple test looked great!

In the near future, I will be testing the possibilities of projecting anaglyph (3D onto 3D geometry!), and I also like to look into how VJ tools can improve my workflow for larger projects. A how-to/tutorial will be shared web3dnews.org soon. Look forward to it!
