Loves Wine, Cheese, Science, and Judo
What is your favorite thing about your home town or home country?
Timoté: From my hometown region, the cheese and the landscapes. From my country, definitely the food and wine.
Why did you come to Japan and what do you like about Japan?
Timoté: I had to do a mandatory internship in my engineering school. I searched an opportunity in Japan because I really like the culture, the food and I do judo.
What do you think about life in Aizu?
Timoté: Aizu is a nice city if you are not too bound to cities. The food and people are way better than in Tokyo.
What is your hobby and how do you usually spend your free time?
Timoté: I like Judo and science, and I usually rest and sleep for a day during the weekend. Then take the other to go out, to ski, do photography, cook…
Do you have any skills that you are proud of?
Timoté: I am proud of my engineering and problem-solving skills and also my judo level after stopping competition and regular training 5 years ago.
What is your academic background and what kind of research are you doing?
Timoté: I choose science during high school, then went to what is called CPGE in France (Preparatory classes for engineering schools) with a math and physics specialization during 2 years. I graduated from the software cyber security branch in my engineering school after 3 more years (equivalent to a master).
What do you think is the current hottest technology-related topic?
Timoté: I think data / big data is the prominent topic currently. Even though cyber security and AI are discussed a lot, the underlying subject is data.
Eyes, JAPAN: Good Coffee and Great Colleagues
How did you know about Eyes, JAPAN? And why did you decide to join Eyes, JAPAN?
Timoté: I got to know Eyes Japan from my father’s Japanese client who introduced me to Yamadera-san. I decided to go because it is a unique experience to be able to come to Japan and do my internship in an IT R&D company.
Do you have any job experiences before joining Eyes, JAPAN?
Timoté: Previously, I worked for a company which makes firewall and network gateways in high-risk environment.
What kind of projects have you been working on in Eyes, JAPAN?
Timoté: I am doing engineering and coding for a R&D project about training RL agent for drones in a simulated environment.
What customs in Eyes, JAPAN that you like the most?
Timoté: There is no judgement, the work conditions are flexibles. The only required skill is communication as it is needed to work as a team.
What do you think about your colleagues and the working environment in Eyes, JAPAN?
Timoté: All colleagues are nice, especially Tang-san and Tom, they are super nice and are my housemate. The environment in Eyes Japan is the best. Good coffee is all I need.
What do you think about working at the company and working at home?
Timoté: I prefer working in office rather than at home when possible. The communication and team work are so much better.
What kind of problems or challenges have you faced while working in Eyes, JAPAN, and how did you solve it?
Timoté: The biggest issue I faced was the learning curve of the tools used in the drone project. I didn’t have any experience with simulation environment nor RL training. I had to discect every part and try to understand bit by bit.
Have you experienced any culture shock while working in Japan?
Timoté: As it is my third time in Japan and Eyes Japan don’t follow strict Japanese rules, I didn’t have any culture shock this time. However, I think the biggest I had previously was the fact that cities are always busy, even at night.
Next Goal: Do a PhD
Do you have any advice for people from who wants to work in Japan?
Timoté: I think the best advice would be to go out, be curious and learn to live by Japanese customs. No to go eat at McDonald’s.
What motivates you to keep working or studying?
Timoté: My curiosity is always driving me to keep learning and I try to learn everything possible from projects.
Lastly, what is your dream?
Timoté: It is pretty hard to define a dream right now as I just achieved one of them which is to be an engineer and work on high tech / high end projects. My next goal could be to do a PhD. And my favourite fields for now are high risk environment security like in medical applications or embedded devices security so It can be nice if I can become prominent in those fields.
Thank you!
