Throughout this blog post you are free to read the word “GIF” with any pronunciation you fancy.
Recently my interested in the GIF file format increased somewhat. Especially the portion of it that makes animations possible. I remember being a great fan of animated GIFs since the early days of the web when, as it seems, even entire websites only consisted of them. The GIF was announced dead several times throughout those past 2 decades but instead of disappearing its popularity astonishingly increased in recent time. Tumblrs with huge collections surfaced and websites solely dedicated to gathering and browsing those little animated images to be used in almost any situation life has in store for us.
At first I thought of giving an introduction to the file format since I have worked with it quite somewhat recently, but other people already did a very good job doing so. So to learn how a GIF file is structured surf over to http://www.matthewflickinger.com/lab/whatsinagif/ and enjoy the read.
