Now after learning Maya and Syflex cloth simulator for about 1.5 months, and digging deeper and deeper in maybe on of the most complex pieces of software out on the market, I am glad to tell that I have learnt a lot in this short amount of time. Still it can get a little frustrating sometimes, because wherever you look in Maya you see checkboxes, sliders, numerical fields and manipulator tools even in the most hidden niches of the program. So to make it short: is it just impossible to know what all these adjustments exactely do.
That’s why I have come to the stage of mere trial and error testing. Pull a slider here, put in a value there and see what the simulation looks like after doing that. Then readjust. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you end up with and mess and the only thing left to do is to push the “Undo-Shortcut” Ctrl+Z to return to the initial state. After a while you really worship this little function as working without it would be impossible in Maya.
A day in the office only working with this program sometimes makes me feel very exhausted. But the learning progress keeps me going, although Maya has a VERY flat training curve.
Hopefully after the course of 6 months Moritz and I will present you a stylish digital fashion show with beautiful 3D models in nice natural ambient scenery.
