Th building of our office only has 2 floors, but there are 3 companies. Every time when I meet other people not from my company, they will reply with smiling “こんにちは”, a normal regarding in Japanese.

There was an uncle I always met. I like his smiling face. Every time, not only normal regarding, we would talk more, like the weather, the situation of our countries and etc. But very short, even I didn’t know his name.

Some days ago, we met when he was going to leave the building. I said “お疲れ様です” to him, a kind of Japanese style goodbye. What surprised was his reply. “Which drink you like”, he pointed at the coin machine behind me. He wanted to treat me drink. That is my first time treated by someone, not by my friend. The reason was he like my politeness and smiling face.

Human kindness is like milk, which make you feel its good smell and taste. But you do not need to make by purpose. When you give your smile to others, the reply will be positive.
