Hallo,
today I have been busy with finding ways to make a bridge between the 3D program Poser and Maya. Actually I have been researching this topic for a whole week now without being too satisfied with the results. The problem remains in the fact that to this date there is no universal 3D interchange format which lets you easily exchange files between 3D applications. Ok, you have the 3ds, obj and the fbx format, but both are either poorly supported or they have too many limitations.
I am using the obj format which would suit my purpose in most cases, but still I have problems with high resolution texture maps and some other details. But before I am getting too technical I just want to say I am really disappointed by the poor compatibility between different 3D applications. All use their propitary file format and when it comes to exporting you only get a file which is cut down to the very basics.
As far as my Poser work is concerned, I made the selection for the female models and now I have to adjust all the details like finding proper eyes, finger nails, clothes, lip colors etc. There are an awful lot of details you have control over in Poser. But it’s still a fun application. I can really recommend giving this program a shot!
