Japanese like Milchreis!

Since I am returning next month to Germany I was giving a farewell party last weekend.

To give something back for all the help and great experiences I decided to cook some German meals for my colleagues. I prepared “Kartoffelbrei” which is potato puree, “Beefsteack” which is similar to a slightly larger version of an hamburger, “Sauerkraut” which everyone knows, “Gulasch” which is similar to beef stew, “Eierkuchen mit Apfel” which is some kind of  pancake with apple slices and finally “Milchreis” which is rice boiled with milk instead of water.

Even though expecting many people to like Sauerkraut, Gulasch and Kartoffelbrei, I was very surprised that people liked Milchreis.

Usually if I tell some Japanese I like to eat rice boiled with milk they cannot imagine that this goes well together. So I was very happy that many people enjoyed tasting their first Milchreis and might even cook it by themselves at home from time to time.
